    We will highlight a handful of Lake Norman towns within Iredell and Mecklenburg counties. In this guide, we’ve left out a few towns near Lake Norman, including Denver, Dallas, and others. With those exemptions noted, here is a list of things to do at Lake Norman by the towns we’ve included.

    Cornelius is a historic and quaint town located along Lake Norman. Just off of I-77 (Exit 28) and only 20 miles from Charlotte, Cornelius boasts 70 miles of lake shoreline.     Davidson is the adorable Lake Norman town that belongs in a Hallmark movie. The college town has boutique shops, 12 miles of greenways, and is proudly walkable.

    Huntersville has quite a few attractions that get confused for being located in Charlotte. But that’s okay because we are here to focus on things to do in this Lake Norman town.

    Mooresville is also considered a Lake Norman town and sits in Iredell County. Known as “Race City USA,” Mooresville is only 30 minutes from Charlotte.

    Statesville is a hub of activity for hot air balloons and even hosts the annual Carolina Balloon Festin October. The Statesville-based festival is the second-oldest hot air balloon festival in the world, bringing in close to 40,000 people to the area each year.   3. Jan 30, 2023 · With 520 miles of shoreline, there are so many things to do in Lake Norman, no matter which part you’re exploring! Lake Norman is the largest artificial lake in North Carolina, touching four counties and multiple towns that we’ll cover in this guide.

    • Hike or Bike the Trails. Lake Norman State Park offers a nice variety of trails for multiple uses. For example, you can hike the child-friendly Dragonfly Trail (0.15-mile loop) or bike all 30-plus miles of single-track trail on the Itsutsi Trail, or some of its shorter portions.
    • Explore the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center is the best place to answer all your questions about the trails or history of Lake Norman. Informative exhibits provide great background on the park.
    • Rent a Pedal Boat. If you’re looking to get on the water, the Visitor Center is also where you can rent canoes and pedal boats. In a typical year, they allow SUP rentals, as well.
    • Go Fishing. Fishing licenses are required to fish Lake Norman’s large array of crappie, bluegill, catfish, spotted bass, and more. There are some popular spots to fish from along the lake, specifically Fishing Pier.
  4. If you are dreaming of sandy beaches there are few on Lake Norman. Swimming from a boat is what most do (plenty of rental vendors). But there are two parks with beaches: Lake Norman State Park near Troutman and Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius.
