Loretta Young undresses in a completely shoed in way. This scene is great because it’s one of many monologues by Bennett as Ruby, and the camera keeps cutting to her.

Only back in the Pre-Code era — not even today when we’re supposedly so enlightened — could a movie *accurately* depict what actually happens far too often between men and women, between predators and their prey.

  5. Apr 10, 2015 · He’s a bad guy. And this direct storytelling is refreshing. In Mary’s life, Leo is nothing more than a bad guy (albeit, a sexy one — for danger is HOT). And so when he commits robberies, has his henchmen murder the perfectly likable Andy Devine, and slaps around Loretta Young with violent force, it’s exhilarating.
