Apr 6, 2006 · Powered by JustWatch. "Lucky Number Slevin" is too clever by half. It's the worst kind of con: It tells us it's a con, so we don't even have the consolation of being led down the garden path. The rug of reality is jerked out from under us in the opening scenes, and before long the floor is being dismantled. Crouched in the dark, I am resentful.

Kids say ( 3 ): This proudly clever crime thriller sets up a range of characters who collide, often to gruesome effect. At the center of Lucky Number Slevin is the title character, played by the scruffy-haired (and frequently shirtless) Hartnett, who slyly squints at the camera, inviting you to guess what he's thinking.

Lucky Number Slevin is an impressive action crime thriller with some flaws but the good outweighs the bad in this one. Director Paul McGuigan is admirable in making this movie about a guy named Slevin who after a case of mistake identity finds himself caught in the middle of a war between two rival crime bosses known as The Rabbi and The Boss.
