1. Mihrimah Sultan Hamam. This hammam was commissioned in the mid-16th century by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent as a gift to his daughter Mihrimah. Two facilities were built by the talented Ottoman architect Sinan (also responsible for building most other top hammams), one in Uskudar and the other in Edirkenekapi.
Mihrimah is a Persian word, meaning “sun and moon”. The historical Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, located in Edirnekapi, as a part of the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque Education Complex, was, according to historical literature, built between 1562 and 1565 in the form of a double Turkish Bath, according to a design which was common in the classical period.
