Michael Roland Ratledge (born 6 May 1943) is a British musician. A part of the Canterbury scene , he was a founding member of Soft Machine . He was the last founding member to leave the group, doing so in 1976.
Soft Machine (billed as the Soft Machine up to 1969 or 1970) were formed in mid-1966 by Mike Ratledge (keyboards), Robert Wyatt (drums, vocals), Kevin Ayers (bass, vocals), Daevid Allen (guitar) and Larry Nowlin (guitar).
Soft Machine are an English jazz-rock [1] band from Canterbury. Formed in mid-1966, the group originally consisted of drummer and vocalist Robert Wyatt, guitarists Daevid Allen and Larry Nowlin, bassist and vocalist Kevin Ayers, and keyboardist Mike Ratledge.
