Mar 10, 2024 · Parachute games are a great way to entertain and provide exercise to children of all ages. These 32 games and activities are sure to do just that. Most think parachute games are only for very young children, not so! Some of the games below – especially those that use a ball, are fun for kids 5 to 11 years old!
- Mushroom (The Classic) Let’s start with the basic mushroom. Students spread out in a circle, holding the edge of the parachute. Students pull the parachute taught and lower it.
- The Umbrella. The umbrella—a mushroom format, but keeping hands up—is a great way to practice teamwork before students move on to more advanced parachute games.
- Make Waves. ADVERTISEMENT. All the students hold the parachute and move it up and down to create waves.
- Treasure Under the Sea. Place “treasures” (balls, bean bags, small stuffies) in a box underneath a parachute. Make waves above it and students are sent in as “divers” to collect the items.

- Number Clock. This is a basic parachute game, perfect for getting kids used to the parachute and letting them warm up for more complicated games. The setup for this number clock game is very simple.
- Bounce Count. Another basic but fun parachute game is bounce count. Get a ball (rubber ball, softball, beach ball, anything will do) and place it in the center of the parachute.
- Cross the Bridge. Cross the Bridge is my personal favorite parachute game, as there is an element of excitement and suspense. Get the children to spread around the parachute and hold it at chest height or higher.
- Parachute Tug of War. Tug of War is a classic game for all ages, and kids sure love to play it as well with the help of a parachute. Split the group into two teams and have them stand on opposite sides of the parachute.
- Coconut Shy! This is such a fun parachute game! Split the kids into two groups for this. One of the groups will hold a large parachute at waist height.
- Coconut Shy Time Limit. This is a variation on the coconut shy game above. The main difference is that this is the competitive version. The first team has 2 minutes (or a different time of your choosing) to get as many balls into the parachute as possible.
- Mushroom. This is a great way to end a session, as a kind of relaxed team-building activity. The idea is that everyone starts by standing around the parachute and holding it at about waist height.
- Rocket! This is a similar concept to ‘mushroom’, but just a different end goal. Everyone stands around in a circle, holding onto the parachute again. Everyone will say, ‘1, 2, 3, Lift!’
