Coordinates: 53°38′N 11°25′E. Schwerin ( German: [ʃveˈʁiːn] ⓘ; Mecklenburgisch-Vorpommersch Low German: Swerin; Polabian: Zwierzyn; Latin: Suerina, Suerinum) is the capital and second-largest city of the northeastern German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as well as of the region of Mecklenburg, after Rostock.

- Schwerin Castle. Building, Museum. Share. Schwerin Castle is something straight out of a fairytale. Over 1,000 years, the beautiful building was reconstructed and expanded several times.
- Schlossgarten. Share. Make sure to allow some time to roam the vast castle parks and gardens. Modelled on a French pleasure garden, the vast green space garden includes several ponds and lakes and is dotted with arcades, canopies and 18th-century sandstone sculptures by Balthasar Permoser.

Schwerin is just of the A 14 about 200 km northwest of Berlin and 100 km east of Hamburg using the A 24. Lübeck is about 65 km and 90 km from Rostock via the A20.

- Schwerin Castle Gardens (Schlossgarten) Schwerin Castle is where you'll find the stunning Schlossgarten (Castle Garden), laid out in the 18th century as a Baroque pleasure garden.
- Mecklenburg State Theater. Just a short stroll north from Schwerin Castle, in the Alter Garten, a pleasant square surrounded by many imposing buildings, stands the Neo-Renaissance Mecklenburg State Theater (Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin).
- State Museum Schwerin. On the east side of the Alter Garten, across from the Mecklenburg State Theater, stands the two buildings of the State Museum Schwerin (Staatliches Museum Schwerin): the original Haupthaus, built in Neoclassical style in 1882, and a modern building connected by a glass walkway, which opened in 2016.
