The Art of Love is a 1965 technicolor comedy film directed by Norman Jewison and starring James Garner, Dick Van Dyke, Elke Sommer, and Angie Dickinson. The film involves an American artist in Paris (Van Dyke) who fakes his own death in order to increase the worth of his paintings (new paintings keep "posthumously" hitting the market).
Two lonely souls, aging sex toy influencer Adam and middle-aged train worker Eva are thrown together on a secret project to banish loneliness forever.

The Art of Love. Having failed to establish himself as a painter in Paris, Paul Sloane (Dick Van Dyke) decides to return home to his wealthy girlfriend, Laurie Gibson (Angie Dickinson).

Reiner's screenplay was a comic spoof on the modern art world, with Van Dyke as an unsuccessful young artist living in Paris whose jump into the Seine to save a woman (Sommer) is thought to result in his death. Now his art starts to sell, big-time, and when Van Dyke turns up alive, his roommate (Garner) persuades him to hide out and keep painting.
