Jan 1, 2024 · Vlad the Impaler aka the ‘real’ Dracula! Vlad Tepes or Vlad III of Dracul, better known as Vlad the Impaler, was a ruler of Wallachia from 1448 to 1478. His region and trade routes were often under threat from Ottoman and Hungarian forces and he was merciless while defending his territory.
A former occupant of this castle was Vlad Tepes, better known Vlad The Impaler. Our tour guide never said whether or not he liked the name his enemies bestowed upon him. Either way, he certainly earned the nickname with his proclivities to impale his enemies, whether it’s men, women, or children.
