The Angel of Shavano route is 7.9 miles roundtrip with 4,430 feet of elevation gain. From the trailhead, follow the Colorado Trail north for 5-10 minutes until the intersection with the Angel of Shavano Trail. There is a sign here indicating the way to Shavano and Tabeguache.

The terrain becomes easier above 13,300', near the top of the Angel - 19. If you run out of snow, this is a good place to decide if you want to use the upper part of the standard East Slopes Route to gain the summit.
Info: Open, but 240 closed beyond there (solid metal locked gate) due to extensive avalanche debris, mainly large trees, completely blocking the road further uphill, just above 10,400’ elevation. This added nearly 8 miles round trip and nearly 1600 feet of extra elevation gain and loss to my ascent of Carbonate Mountain on 7/24/19.
