Arturo's Island is a gorgeous and captivating Italian coming-of-age classic novel. Arturo is a belligerent boy growing up on Procida, a small island near Napoli. His mother, who was 17 and illiterate, died in childbirth, and his father is aloof and mysterious father comes and goes at will.

Jul 20, 2022 · This coming-of-age story won the 1957 Strega Prize, Italy’s most prestigious literary award, but this review is of a newer translation by Ann Goldstein. The book tells of a fourteen-year-old boy Arturo Gerace living in Procida, Bay of Naples, Italy some time before the World War II.
Arturo’s Island by Elsa Morante. It reads almost as a fairy tale at the beginning and it becomes quite a terrifying psychological reality as the book proceeds. It’s a brilliant book
