Newlyweds Cliff and Cydney travel to Hawaiifor their honeymoon, and things take a turn for the worse when they find out tourists are being murdered on the island. A Perfect Getawayhas an incredible ending if you’re a fan of good twists. 1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer

A trio of thieves break into a blind veteran’s apartment in search of a major cash settlement he received after the death of his child. They get more than they bargained for, and it turns into a desperation for survival. I thought this movie was going to be terrible before I saw it, but it was actually really good. Don’t Breathe 2follows a veteran and his young daughter, who live together in an isolated cabin. When his daughter is kidnapped, he’s forced to tap into his darker instincts. The s...

A family goes on a tropical holiday where they discover a secluded beach that causes them to age rapidly. The acting isn’t the greatest tbh, but it is very suspenseful and an interesting watch. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, Old is based on a Swiss graphic novel titled Sandcastle. The cinematography by Michael Gioulakis is lovely – he also did the cinematography for Shyamalan’s Split and Glass, Jordan Peele’s Us, and Servanton Apple TV+! 1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer

    The Conjuring franchise

The Conjuring is one of the creepiest horror franchisesout there, probably because each movie is based on a real case solved by Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were paranormal investigators. In the first movie, the Warrens come to the assistance of a troubled family, who experience increasingly disturbing events in their newly-occupied farmhouse in Rhode Island in 1971. In the second movie, they travel to north London to help out a single mother and her four children. The Devil Made Me Do It is t...

The Annabellemovies are all about – you guessed it – a creepy doll named Annabelle that’s possessed by an evil spirit. In the first movie, a man gifts a vintage doll to his wife, but when devil worshippers invade their home, they turn the object into something evil. Only the first film is available to stream on Netflix. If you want to watch the other movies, Annabelle: Creation actually precedes Annabelleso I’d recommend watching it before watching the other movies. Annabelle was also a case...

A group of friends discover how to conjure spirits with an embalmed hand, and they become hooked on the exhilaration and high-stakes party game. However, their fascination takes a dark turn when one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces. Talk to Me is one of the more unique horror movies I’ve watched in recent years, alongside Hereditary, Midsommar, and Barbarian. 1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer

Seven young outcasts in the town of Derry face off against an ancient, shape-shifting evil that emerges from the sewers every 27 years to prey on the town’s children. The friends must overcome their own personal fears to battle the bloodthirsty clown known as Pennywise. It is one of the most terrifying horror movies I’ve ever seen, but it might just be because I’m afraid of clowns. There’s also a sequel set 27 years after the events of the first movie, though it’s not available on Netflix! 1...

Train to Busan is without a doubt the best zombie horror filmI have ever seen. While Seok-woo and his daughter are aboard a train to the city of Busan, they get trapped in the middle of a zombie outbreak. It’s absolutely terrifying, especially since the zombies actually run fast. The film is in Korean, so you’ll have to read subtitles, but it’s absolutely worth it. There’s also a sequel called Peninsula, but it’s a completely different story and I didn’t love it as much as the first movie. If...

After a virus breaks out in the city, a lone survivor is left stranded in his apartment with no food and no weapons. There’s also an American version called Pandemic starring Tyler Posey (from Teen Wolf) with almost the exact same storyline. I actually preferred the American version to the South Korean one, but #Aliveis still good and worth a watch! 1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer

Can you call yourself a horror fan without having seen Scream? The Scream franchise revolves around Sidney Prescott, who constantly gets chased by psychopaths in ghostface masks. It’s definitely one of my favourite horror franchises of all-time, and you can stream the first movie on Netflix. It’s the ultimate slasher franchise that never gets old or boring, and I never get tired of re-watching it. While Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger may be the OG slasher villains, I find myself laughing t...

    Final Destination franchise

Final Destination is an iconic horror franchisethat you’ve probably heard of even if you’ve never seen the movies before. Basically in each movie, a group of people cheat death by having premonitions, and they end up mysteriously dying one by one because of ~fate~. People die pretty horrifically, but it’s still amusing if you’re a horror lover. You can watch 3 of the movies on Netflix, as well as the other two movies on Crave! 3 films available on Netflix

Part of the popular Purge franchise, The Forever Purgeis about a different set of people and how they deal with the infamous Purge. If you don’t know what the fictional “Purge” is, it’s 12 hours when almost all crime is legal, in an effort to create a ~crime-free~ world the rest of the year. A sergeant plans revenge from the loss of his son, but finds himself protecting four innocent strangers who desperately need his help to survive the night. 1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer

Max and her friends get transported into a cult slasher flick while watching it at the theatre, and they have to rely on their knowledge of horror movie tropes to survive. I can’t believe I’d never heard of The Final Girlsbefore it came onto Netflix – it actually came out in 2015 supposedly. It stars Taissa Farmiga and Nina Dobrev! 1 film available on Netflix, watch the trailer

    The Babysitter franchise

Cole stays up past his bedtime and accidentally discovers that his hot babysitter is part of a satanic cult, and he spends the rest of the night trying to stay alive. The Babysitter is a fun horror/comedy if you’re in the mood for gore and laughs. The second movie, Killer Queen, follows Cole two years later when he finds himself back in the same situation. Part one is actually pretty entertaining, but they really could’ve done without making part two. Still fun to watch both though, if you’re...
