Conrail's N8 cabooses came from the Penn Central, who had inherited them from the Pennsylvania. The N8 looks very much like a stretched N5C with the distinctive streamlined cuploa. There are three easy spotting features to tell the two apart.
N21 Cabooses. The N21 class were the only cabooses bought new by Conrail, numbering 113 cars in the series 21201-21313. These cabooses were built by FGE at Alexandria, VA.

This caboose utilized round windows on the carbody and most end doors, a larger streamlined cupola , lower belt rail, no vertical butt strip. Exterior dimensions were the same as for the N-5B. Original PRR numbers were 477820-478019. Penn Central renumbered them into the 23000-23179 series. 169 made it to Conrail retaining their PC numbers.
