For three seasons, from 1969 to 1972, he played Darrin Stephens — a role he had previously turned down [citation needed] — in Bewitched, replacing ailing actor Dick York. In 1975, Sargent appeared on the television show Tattletales with Fannie Flagg.
Then suddenly, he was replaced by Dick Sargent, who played the role for the show’s final three seasons. The reason was even more sad than York being fired or wanting to leave the show.
