The D&SNGRR travels 45.4 miles each way along the Animas River from Durango to Silverton during our summer season May through October. On our winter trips late November through early May, the train travels 26 miles each way to the wye at Cascade Station.
If you travel in the winter the Durango and Silverton Railroad offers an exclusive Cascade Canyon Excursion that will take you through a magical and beautiful winter wonderland. You’ll arrive at the beautiful Cascade Canyon for a 60 minute layover before returning to Durango.
The Route. The D&SNGRR travels 45.4 miles each way along the Animas River from Durango to Silverton during our summer season May through October. On our winter trips late November through early May, the train travels 26 miles each way to the wye at Cascade Station.
Winter Cascade Canyon Express Schedule: Depart Durango 9:15 am and arrive back in Durango at 2:30pm. Scenic Round trip to Silverton Train. Available May 7-October 29. Excursions depart from the Durango Depot. Two daily round trips to Silverton from Downtown Durango.
Current Schedule. Here are the current train destination routes and times for the winter and spring. Cascade Canyon Express. Available seven days a week from November 18 - May 3. One departure daily from the Durango Depot at 9:30 am. This is a 5-hour roundtrip excursion. Schedule of the Cascade Canyon Express: Durango Departure: 9:15 am.
