The Ghost River Wilderness Area is a provincially designated wilderness area in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta protecting the headwaters of the Ghost River. It was established in 1967 and it, as one of the three wilderness areas of Alberta, has the strictest form of government protection available in Canada.
Jun 12, 2023 · Ghost River Wilderness Area consists of rugged mountain terrain and glacier-carved valleys. Aylmer, Apparition, Oliver and Costigan mountains reach elevations of 2743 to 3353 metres. Below 2100 metres there are sub-alpine forests of Engelmann spruce, white spruce, fir and lodgepole pine; above 2100 metres are grasses, sedges and wildflowers.

The uppermost reaches of the North Ghost are protected by the 59.14 sq mi (153.2 km 2) Ghost River Wilderness Area, established in 1967. Alberta Wilderness Areas prohibit development of any kind and allow only foot traffic, banning equestrian and vehicular travel. Below the GRWA, the river passes through the Ghost Public Land Use Zone.

The Ghost River Wilderness Area is located in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta. This protected area encompasses the headwaters of the Ghost River spanning 153.2 square kilometers. There are 11 named mountains in the Ghost River Wilderness Area.
Three areas make up what we call the Ghost: The South Ghost, the Ghost River Wilderness and the Ghost-Waiparous PLUZ. Together, these areas mark a beautiful and rugged transition area from the Foothills into the Rockies, connecting to Banff National Park.
