The noteworthy change is that this version can use a modern Sun Java JVM, rather than the old and hard to get Microsoft JVM. So, it should be easier to get it working on your computer.

I found that Stracciatella port works with wildfire maps. Duplicate wildfire game and extract Stracciatella to wildfire.
