Apr 11, 2012 · On May 22, 1961, Davis suffered a heart attack and died in Palm Springs at the age of 53. Her daughter and ex-husband made headlines after her death, wrangling over the million-dollar estate of Joan Davis, which was eventually settled in favor of her daughter.

By JERRY RATTS Four members of the family of the late comedienne Joan Davis were killed early this morning when fire gutted a master bedroom at 1981 Yucca Place. The victims were Mrs. Martin S. Colbert, 30, daughter of Miss Davis, and her two sons by a former marriage, Guy Grossman, 7, and his brother Larry, 4, and Miss Davis’ mother, Nina Mae.

For television, she is best remembered for the lead role of 'Joan' on the series "I Married Joan" from 1952 to 1953, for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Comedienne. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Joan Davis died of a heart attack at age 48 in 1961.
