Apr 22, 2024 · While Joe Dirt’s seemingly crusty Daytona Dodge Charger wouldn’t add up to the value of a Lamborghini Countach movie car, it still brought an impressive sum of $330,000 at this year’s Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction, and it wasn’t even a real Dodge Daytona.
At one point in the movie, Joe Dirt drives to work in the worn-out 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Only 503 Daytonas were manufactured in 1969, making it a unique selection for the film.
Sold as a 69½ model, 503 examples were produced, just enough to qualify for NASCAR racing. Of these, 70 had the feared 426 Hemi engine; the rest came with the stout 440 Magnum. An immediate success on the track, the cars virtually dominated stock car racing in 1969.
