Read poems by this poet. Born on January 18, 1893, Jorge Guillén, in Valladolid, Old Castile, Spain. He is regarded as one of the greatest Spanish poets of the twentieth century. He attended school in Valladolid, Switzerland, Madrid, Granada, and Germany, and began writing poetry in 1919.
It also contains translations of French, Italian, German, English and Portuguese poetry. However, there are also more personal reflections. "Al márgen de un Cántico", for example, shows his response to critics who had accused him of writing in abstractions – such as Juan Ramón Jiménez among others.
