Positive response is a system housed at the MISS DIG 811 notification system that will allow Facility owner/operators or their authorized locating contractor to provide status of dig notices sent to them by MISS DIG 811.

MISS DIG 811 processes that locate request by contacting our over 1,700 members, who then come out and locate their underground facilities. You cannot begin your excavation before the start time on your locate request, even if all utilities have been marked. You are required to check Positive Response before digging.

A design ticket or information provided in response to a design ticket does not satisfy the requirement under this act for excavation or blasting notice to the notification system or marking the approximate location of facilities for blasting or excavation.
Positive Response Codes Based on Ticket Type & Status. The following are Positive Response codes available to members to select from when posting to Positive Response. The Pelican system requires use of comments with each code.
Excavators must use Positive Response to verify if their ticket has been marked, is clear, or if utilities have yet to respond. This information is administered by MISS DIG and is available, with your ticket number, online at response.missdig.org or via automated phone system at 800-763-3888.
Positive Response Codes Based on Ticket Type & Status. The Pelican system requires use of comments with every Positive Response code. Normal 21-Day, Project 21-Day, Normal 180-Day, Project 180-Day, Short Notice, Emergency, Unmarked Facilities, Additional Assistance, and Destroyed Markings.
Positive Response is a system housed by MISS DIG 811 that allows Facility Owner/Operators to provide status to dig notices sent to them by MISS DIG 811, as required under Public Act 174 of 2013 Sec 7 (3). Once the Facility Owner/Operator determines the status of the dig notice, they then post the response per facility type.
