A sacred and spectacular site The village of Orongo is located on the narrowest edge of the Rano Kau volcano. The archaeological site of Orongo is located in the southwestern part of the Rano Kau volcano, in a narrow strip between the edge of the crater that surrounds the lagoon and the cliff that descends almost perpendicular to the sea, in front of the Motu Nui, Motu Iti and Motu Kao Kao islets.
