Oct 10, 2023 · Pan Am Railways was a Class II railroad created in 2006 from the Guilford Rail System, which had acquired several historic lines in the region. It was sold to CSX Transportation in 2022 and operated 1,800 miles of trackage, partnering with Norfolk Southern on the Patriot Corridor.
Jun 1, 2022 · CSX Corp. announced it has acquired Pan Am Railways, expanding its reach into the Northeast region of the country. The transaction was approved by the Surface Transportation Board and will provide benefits to rail transportation users in New England and beyond.
The sale of Pan Am Systems to CSX underwent regulatory review by the Surface Transportation Board, which approved the sale on April 14, 2022. At midnight on June 1, 2022, CSX began operating Pan Am Systems and its Pan Am Railways; also, Pan Am Systems was merged into a temporary subsidiary of CSX which will eventually merge into CSX.
