Mar 16, 2020 · Prairie Winds Casino is an Indian gaming casino owned by the Oglala Lakota Nation. The casino is located on the Pine Ridge Reservation about 10 minutes east of Oelrichs on Highway 18. Prairie Winds opened in 1994 and features 400 slot machines, two restaurants and an 80-room hotel.

Jun 1, 2017 · I was able to visit this reservation of the Lakota Indians - and having a wonderful local guide found the whole visit a truly moving experience. Gus Yellowhair was our guide' along with his daughter, and he was so honest and genuine in explaining their past history.
The sites on the reservation range from the mundane to the incredible. You can visit a wide range of landscapes from the Southern Badlands including the Red Shirt Table overlook, fields of Sunflowers, rugged hills, tree lined creek beds to wide open grasslands.

The casino is open 24 hours a day, and now has a restaurant and hotel — all providing paying jobs in a county where the average per capita income is less than $7,000. Highway 18, which runs east-west along the southern edge of the Pine Ridge, is often the only road that visitors travel.
