Private Detective 62 is a 1933 American pre-Code detective film directed by Michael Curtiz and starring William Powell as a private detective who falls for a woman whom he has been hired to frame in a scandal. Plot. In France, U.S. State Department employee Donald Free is caught trying to steal French state papers.
A former government agent in France, who has failed at an assignment and been disavowed, is deported back to the USA, where he can only find work at a low-rent detective agency. He soon gets involved with a woman with ties to a crooked gambling club owner, who is a client of his agency.
In Private Detective 62 (1933), Powell plays a compromised government agent reduced to working as a private dick for a disreputable New York agency during the early days of the Depression.
