Apr 5, 2011 · The Fault Lines concept, developed by the Robert C. Maynard Institute for Journalism Education, helps reporters understand and cover a diverse spectrum of people. The curriculum committee this last fall began using the concept as a required component in all core reporting and writing classes.
Maynard teaches journalists to look more deeply and effectively into society through a framework called “faultlines.” Her father, Robert C. Maynard, developed the philosophy when thinking about the frequent earthquakes in the state where he became the first African American editor of a major metropolitan daily, the Oakland Tribune.
