Hot-headed singer who's prone to getting into fights gets a hankering for the daughter of a woman who runs a traveling carnival, eventually finds himself with a guitar working the run-ways.
Roustabout holds a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on nine reviews. Awards and honors. The film's screenwriters, Anthony Lawrence and Allan Weiss, were nominated for the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Written American Musical. The film generated a best-selling soundtrack album that went #1 on the Billboard charts.

elvis filmography: ranked. Review by Swartacus ★★★½ 7. Roustabout is actually one of the better outings of Elvis' hokey early '60s films. It's nowhere near as good as Viva Las Vegas, but it beats the pants off of hot garbage like It Happened at the World's Fair.

“Roustabout” (1964) is easily one of the better Elvis flicks (for me, at least), probably because the setting is the carnival & carnies, but also because the story is serious (rather than farcical) and more captivating than most.
