Russkies was released on VHS by Lorimar Home Video and on Laserdisc by Image Entertainment in 1988. In 2002, a budget DVD of the film was released by Platinum Disc, but with no bonus features and presented only in full frame.
Russkies. "Russkies" is a good-hearted movie about a bunch of kids who find a stranded Russian sailor after he washes ashore in Florida and overcome their Cold War conditioning to become his friends. This is not hard to do, because the sailor is obviously a good guy and because helping him is obviously so much more fun than turning him in.
It's dated now ('80s clothes, '80s politics), but it's an amusing, somewhat corny little movie that will entertain and amuse. I thought that the interaction between the three boys and "their" Russian sailor seemed genuine, and I liked the premise. The scenes where the boys have a "day out" with their new (Russian) buddy are especially fun to watch.
