Hazel Evans is a skilled knight who served in the court of the The Alderking and now his successor, Severin. Her brother is Benjamin Evans, she is the second child of Greer O'Neill and Spencer Evans.
She freed Severin from imprisonment and lead the coup against the Alderking that brought Severin to power.
Early life
Hazel grew up in a small U.S. town called Fairfold, where humans live alongside faeries. She is the second child of Greer O'Neill and Spencer Evans and the younger sister of Benjamin. She and her brother were unsupervised and often neglected during their childhood. Hazel and Ben spent much of their time playing outside and exploring the woods. One day while playing in the woods, Hazel discovered the body of a child named Adam Hicks who was attacked and killed. The water hag who was responsible for his death emerged from the nearby water and attacked Hazel. Ben intervened by enchanting the hag with music played on his pipes and Hazel, discovering a sword in the ground, attacked and killed the water hag. Ben and Hazel became the "bard and the knight" using their skills to hunt faeries who harmed humans.
The bargain
At the age of 10, Hazel was nearly killed by a barghest when Ben lost his focus and was unable to play his pipes to enchant it. Ben decided to temporarily stop hunting until he could go to school and improve his musical skills, but Hazel wanted to continue their quest. At the age of 11, she made a deal with the Alderking to give 7 years of her life in exchange for Ben's admission and scholarship to music school in Philadelphia.
Character Descriptions. Hazel Evans. Hazel is a brave and daring teenager with a fierce determination to protect her town from the dangers lurking in the forest. She has a striking appearance, with wild, curly hair and a confident demeanor that draws others to her.
Hazel lives with her brother, Ben, in the strange town of Fairfold where humans and fae exist side by side. The faeries’ seemingly harmless magic attracts tourists, but Hazel knows how dangerous they can be, and she knows how to stop them. Or she did, once.
