The Shipping News is a 2001 romantic drama film directed by Lasse Hallström from a screenplay by Robert Nelson Jacobs, based on the 1993 novel of the same name by E. Annie Proulx. It stars Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore, Judi Dench, Scott Glenn, Rhys Ifans, Pete Postlethwaite, and Cate Blanchett.

The Shipping News is a novel by American author E. Annie Proulx and published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1993. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, [1] the U.S. National Book Award, as well as other awards. [2] It was adapted as a film of the same name which was released in 2001.
Despite this, it's got a fantastic cast (Julianne Moore, Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett and more), stunning cinematography that captures the rugged landscape, and a subtle but effective score.
