Its name persists, paying homage to the mechanical ticking sound produced by the original devices and the long, narrow paper strips on which stock quotes were printed.
Modern ticker tapes display a stock's symbol based on its ticker on exchanges. Alongside the symbol, they showcase the price of the last trade, the volume, the direction of the trade (up or downtick), and the change in price from the opening.
