A long tradition of mining activities is evidenced by structures remaining from the boom days, including the Camden House and the Camden Water Ditch Trail.
Gold panning is a fun and relaxing way to enjoy the creeks in Whiskeytown. Panning for gold has been a popular activity at Whiskeytown since the California Gold Rush of the 1850s. Visitors 17 years of age or older must be in possession of a valid Whiskeytown Gold Panning Pass to pan in the park.
Although the town and much of the Clear Creek drainage within the recreation area is now underwater, Gold panning is still a fun way to pass a hot summer day splashing in the creeks and streams that flow into Whiskeytown Lake.
