The Chosen Mum is the first episode of series 1 of Yonderland. It originally aired on Sky 1 on 10 November 2013.
Married mum-of-two Debbie Maddox finds herself transported into the fantasy world of Yonderland through her utility cupboard where she is told she is the Chosen One, destined to save the realm from evil forces.
Married mum-of-two Debbie Maddox doesn't know what she's going to do with herself now that the twins, Hayley and Ben, have started school. Husband Pete is busy at work, and with no kids to chase after, all that's left is cleaning, the odd embarrassing Zumba class and terrible daytime TV. What Debbie needs is a distraction and, handily, one arrives in the form of an Elf hiding in her kitchen cupboard.
After denying it's real, Debbie ventures into the portal and arrives in Yonderland (believing it to be nothing more than 'a cheese on toast dream'), it's just like the new forest, except in a different world. After elf tells Debbie not to pick the flowers because she won't win against them, they head off in search of the elders. The journey will take 10 days, across the most treacherous terrain known to any creature ... or they could take the railway!
Upon entering the elder's chamber, Debbie discovers her picture on the wall and that she is the chosen one, however, her fate is written upon a second scroll, the only problem is Lord Elder Pressley has lost the second scroll after leaving the tavern drunk one evening. Debbie is left with only one option, to consult The Oracle.
Elf and Debbie set off and arrive in the village which is home to The Crone, a strange and ugly old lady who the town call a slapper, but is, in fact, the guardian of the oracle, ensuring his health and well being, one small problem, he's dead, or so it is believed as it hasn't moved in generations. Once Debbie activates the oracle and asks him her fate, the oracle gives a very cryptic answer. Thinking it's all a load of nonsense, Debbie resolves to go back to her world and tells Elf to stay out of her cupboard.
While trying to reopen the portal, she sees The Gallants, still fighting over who should enter the tavern first, after intervening and stopping them killing each other (making it the first day in history where there is no killing) Debbie is regarded a hero, despite protests that all she did was ask some people not to kill each other. Suddenly, the oracles ramblings start to make sense and Debbie realises she is, in fact, the chosen one.
The elders rejoice as Debbie accepts her fate, Debbie rushes back to her world to pick up the twins and when Pete returns home, she attempts to tell him about Yonderland, but he doesn't hear her, Debbie then decides, maybe it's best not to tell him after all.
