Childhood & Early Life. Željko Simic-Ivanek was born on 15 August 1957, in Ljubljana, PR Slovenia, FPR Yugoslavia. His family immigrated to California in 1960. He spent his childhood years shuttling between California and Yugoslavia. He graduated from Ellwood P. Cubberley High School in 1975 and later pursued a degree in arts from Yale University.
