The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George III, following his acquisition of French Territory after the end of the French and Indian Wars. It forbade settlers from passing a line drawn along today’s Eastern Continental Divide, and Northeast, along the St. Lawrence Divide.
Brief Overview. The French and Indian War changed the balance of power in North America in favor of the British. The French were driven out by a coalition of Britons, colonists, and Indians. However, once peace returned, these groups began to quarrel, and the situation in North America became more fragile every day.
