Agnes was born as the daughter of Margrave Hermann von Brandenburg (younger line of the Ascanians) and his wife Anna von Habsburg. In 1309 she married Margrave Woldemar von Brandenburg, who came from the older line of the Ascanians.
Agnes received a seat at Altmark; Jutta received a seat at Coburg. John's childless death left the main core of Salzwedel to be reunited by his regent Valdemar.
