I’ve been in Austin at CBS Austin for 11 years. I started as a full-time meteorologist, and now I’m a morning news anchor, but I still do some weather anchoring. [I’m up and at work from] 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday.
I grew up in a dance studio, so I’ve been dancing pretty much since I could walk. I think dancing’s for everyone, and you should do it every day. But I also grew up wanting to use my science degree. I wanted to be a pilot, so I went to school for aerospace engineering, then switched to meteorology, so that was my school track. And so, when I got to...
Crazy enough, I get embarrassed doing these in front of people, so I find some place where there’s nobody around [and use a tripod]. Usually that’s behind our CBS Austin building, or in a hallway or at home or in the park. And then for song choice, I’ll use either a trending song, or if it’s going to be 70 degrees, I’ll find us a song from the ’70s...
Most of the responses I get are You make my day, I love seeing your forecast every morning, your energy is contagious. Things like that, which always makes me smile. Because my main goal is to just spread the positivity. I’m such a positive person that if I can infect you with that, I will.
I want to say there’s just one person, but it’s really anyone anywhere. Because there are so many different styles, especially on social media— there are kids that are dancing who are really little [all the way up] to grandparents. It’s cool to pull from a variety of people and styles. I can go from salsa to break-dancing the next day.
I hope they take away the fact that you can be more than one thing. For me, being an engineering student and the only girl in my classes, I felt like I had to choose between [that and] just being fun and fashion-y or dancing.
