In oil and gas, a common set of five stage names is Appraise (or Identify), Select, Define, Execute, Operate. Some operators add a sixth stage , Abandon Appraise, Select and Define together are called Front End Loading (FEL).
Oct 10, 2015 · Hutchison and Wabeke (2006) developed a model for the phases of complex engineering and construction projects. Their model has five phases: identify and assess, select, define, execute, and operate. They plotted the value of each phase as shown in Exhibit 3. Exhibit 3: Impact on value with early decisions.
Figure 1 depicts a generic project life cycle, front-end loading, and decision gate consisting of initiate, select, define, execute and operate. At the end of each stage, decision gate is available to evaluate and ensure that all deliverables and criteria have been met.
