     Well, my partial solution to this problem was to switch compilers. Apparently, Programmer's Notepad doesn't like the output from DJGPP on Windows Vista, probably because DJGPP isn't a full port and has all sorts of other issues anyway. The solution is to just use a different compiler. We're now using MinGW for this project, and that solved most of our problems once we got the linker issues sorted out.

     Still, if anyone has a way to make DJGPP work with PN (I know there are still some projects that rely on it) it would be helpful to know.

     **Resolved: Here are the steps I took:

     • I uninstalled the development environment
     • deleted the information registered in the windows APPDATA folder
     • Made Windows run all updates
     • Reinstalled development environment

     Honestly I did not understand if the problem was given by a windows update or by the development environment but the important thing is to solve...

     It seems that the script does not have a display when run from cron, so chromium's interface does not show.

     Add

     export DISPLAY=:0.0-

     to your script before starting chromium and it should work.

     This will let you check for packages before re-installing (and not display any messages while loading them). Then it uses a cross-platform way of getting the filename for the shapefile you need and then reads & plots it. The individual R code lines (i.e. non-Rmd) work fine in an R console and in RStudio + the Rmd knits fine on my OS X system and linux systems. There are more elegant ways to do the package check/load but this will let you quickly check to see if there is a bigger problem on your system.

     No mistake, after running an insert, the identity value will be 1 + the last inserted value. You will need to do a dbcc checkident(TableName, newvalue, Reseed)
