Behind the High Wall is a 1956 American film noir crime film directed by Abner Biberman starring Tom Tully and Sylvia Sidney . It featured an early performance by John Gavin who had just signed with Universal. [1] It was sometimes referred to as his first film [2] although he had appeared in Raw Edge under another name.

With a great early prison break sequence followed by what can best be described as a morality play, Behind the High Wall is another excellent story and performance driven noir film from the subgenre’s classic era. It’s very lively and fun, and it’s always great to see Sylvia Sidney. Worth a watch if you like the genre.
