Time Travel is the fifth episode of series two of the original series of Bernard's Watch Television program. This episode was first broadcast on 23 October 1998.
Bernard is on his way home from holiday in the car with his parents. He wants to stop for something to eat but his parents insist they are nearly home and he should wait. Bernard decides to use his watch to stop time and buy a sandwich at a nearby petrol station but he accidentally restarts time while reaching into his pocket for his money and his parents have driven on.
Bernard then borrows a bicycle from a couple he asks for directions to his hometown after being unable to find a signpost to it, leaving them a note to look for the bike by the road, and set off in search of his parents. After asking two police officers for directions, he overhears them discussing a radio report of a stolen bike and sets off in frozen time. He finds his parents but all the doors on the car are locked. Bernard thinks and then decides to go back to the petrol station and leaves the couple, now talking to the policemen, a note giving the name of his street and hides the back of the police car. When they reach his street, Bernard goes back to his parents' car unlocking it through a now open window before his parents notice he is gone. The policemen note that the bike Bernard borrowed was back on the couple's bike rack but are at a loss to explain how it got there.
•In this episode, Bernard's hometown is named as Oakwood and his street as Bowness Close on the Belle Vue estate. The real life location for his street is indeed Bowness Close but in reality it is in the Gamston area of West Bridgford across the River Trent from Nottingham.
•In a later episode Alien Times, an A-Z guide to Nottingham is used as a map of the local area.
•The petrol station featured is Cotgrave Service Station which is just over four miles from Bowness Close and Nottingham is signposted from the village in real life. However, Bernard could have been given a fictional hometown to explain the lack of signposting to it.
•Bernard's parents are heading south past Cotgrave Service Station when the most direct route to both Nottingham, as signposted, and Gamston is north of the village. However, it is possible to reach Bowness Close that way and this could have been done to evoke a sense of adventure when Bernard cycles along the rural lanes.
