Oct 28, 2010 · Arsenal de Brest history. Brest served as a supply base for the US troops in World War I. It was used as the disembarking port for most of the US forces in 1917. The Germans set up one of their Atlantic submarine bases at Brest and used it as a harbour for warships and U-boats during World War II.
During the Middle Ages, the history of Brest was the history of its castle. Then Richelieu made it a military harbour in 1631. [ 8 ] Brest grew around its arsenal until the second part of the 20th century.
