Situated in Helsinki’s Ruoholahti district, Cable Factory was the biggest building in Finland when it was completed in 1954. Initially it was a production site for marine cables. Later on, Finland’s first supercomputer was located here.

Cable Factory is one of the largest cultural centres in Finland, situated in Helsinki’s Ruoholahti district. It is a rugged factory environment spanning over five hectares with lots to do, see and experience for everybody interested in culture.
Cable Factory / Kaapelitehdas occupies the premises of an old factory which initially produced telephone and electrical cables. The Cable Factory project began in 1991 and nowadays it is the largest and most diverse cultural centre in Finland.
After those discussions it was decided that the main focuses of The Cable Factory would be visual arts, contemporary dance, band rehearsal rooms and that the 3 museums that were elsewhere in Helsinki would move into The Cable Factory and form something like a museum complex inside the building.
