Unintentional Drug Overdose Deaths in Ohio. • 2020 surpassed 2017 as the highest year for unintentional drug overdose deaths in Ohio, with 5,017 deaths and an age-adjusted rate of 45.6 deaths per 100,000 population. This was a 3% increase over 2017 and a 25% increase over 2019. Figure 1.

From 2021 to 2022, unintentional drug overdose deaths among White non-Hispanic Ohioans decreased 9% from 4,005 to 3,662 deaths. In 2022, White non-Hispanic individuals made up 75% of Ohio drug overdose deaths, compared with 77% of the total Ohio population.
Feb 1, 2022 · When comparing deaths per month by year, January (145 deaths) and July (162 deaths) were the only months for which 2020 had the highest number of deaths. In 2021, suicide deaths were higher in February (127 deaths) and April (133 deaths) compared with the same months in 2020.
