Jan 3, 2023 · In Dwarf Fortress, dwarves sometimes break arms, legs, and other bones and need them set in a cast. For this, they’ll need plaster powder, which is interchangeably called plaster powder and gypsum plaster in-game. Here’s how to manufacture and provide hospitals with that powder.

A hospital also needs cast powder, cloth, fresh water, soap, a traction table, beds, splints and crutches.
There may be other bugginess that makes it unreliable - I've seen people say it just plain doesn't work, but at the same time I've seen my medical dwarves apply casts which then appear in the injured dwarf's inventory and treatment history (like sutures and dressing).
A hospital zone allows wounded dwarves to rest and receive care and treatment. Hospitals use any beds, Tables, traction benches, and containers that have been built within the zone. The hospital will requisition thread, cloth, splints, crutches, plaster powder (for casts), buckets, and soap for medical use.
Powder is any fine-grained loose material, including milled plants, sand, and plaster. To be useful, powder must be stored in a bag; powder that has been dumped from a bag is not recoverable. Caravans will often have various powders available for trade, and further quantities can be requested from the outpost liaison.
