When Auschwitz was evacuated in January 1945, Erich and Heinz were sent on one of the many 'death marches'. They arrived in Mauthausen on 25 January 1945. Four days later, on 29 January 1945, they were both send to the subcamp Ebensee. Erich died there on 7 March 1945 at the age of 43. Source personal data.

Erich died when the World Court Project had achieved what we were told as late as 1990 was impossible, a hearing at the Court. He helped inspire a team which has added a new dimension to working for a nuclear free world. Erich lives on in the continuing campaign to abolish nuclear weapons in the twenty-first century.
