Ernst Friedrich Ferdinand Zermelo ( / zɜːrˈmɛloʊ /, German: [tsɛɐ̯ˈmeːlo]; 27 July 1871 – 21 May 1953) was a German logician and mathematician, whose work has major implications for the foundations of mathematics.
