Deledda's main focus was the representation of poverty and the struggles associated with it through a combination of imaginary and autobiographical elements. Her family wasn't particularly supportive of her desire to write. Deledda's first novel, Fiori di Sardegna (Flowers of Sardinia) was published in 1892.
Her most famous works include 'Reeds in the Wind' and 'Cosima'. Deledda's writing is characterized by its use of regional settings, lyrical prose, and exploration of themes such as nature, tradition, and the human condition. She passed away on August 15, 1936.

With this novel, Grazia Deledda won the Nobel prize for literature in the early 20th century. It’s a work of breath-taking lyricism, perhaps unique in its style, to be read and reread, despite its unhealthy fatalism, the morbid victimism (typical of Deledda), and the dark version of Christianity that her characters live by.
