    On a rainy day, Heathcliff recalls his past exploits to his three nephews (and a mouse), through a compilation of episodes originally broadcast from the Heathcliff & the Catillac CatsTV series.

    Home media

    Heathcliff: The Moviewas released on VHS and LaserDisc in the 1980s and 1990s by Paramount Home Video and KVC Home Video. It was released on VHS in 1997 by Sterling Entertainment Group.

    Box office

    Heathcliff: The Moviegrossed $508,305 on its opening weekend and grossed $2,610,686 in the domestic box office by the end of its run. It is the 8th highest grossing G-rated film of 1986.

    Critical reception

    Heathcliff: The Movie received mixed reviews from both critics and audiences. Caryn James of The New York Times stated that the film is "harmless," but it's "likely that even the youngest children will be as bored by Heathcliff as his inattentive nephews are." James also criticized the animation, the lip-sync on the human characters, and the character of Heathcliff. The film currently has a 5.5/10 rating on IMDb, and a 52% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

    Riff-Raff, Cleo, Bush and Leroydo not appear in this film (although Riff-Raff and Cleo do appear in the opening, which is just the same opening intro used in the show).
    The only difference in the opening intro is that when the "Heathcliff" logo appears on-screen, Heathcliff stamps text that says "THE MOVIE" next to the logo.
    Some of the music in the segments are different from the TV versions.
    The movie's end credits are also very similar to the show's end credits.
