A merge (alternatively referred to as a team dissolution in early seasons) is the coming together of two teams. This means that the competition will now focus individually until the end of the game. Most of the time, this also signals the game's halfway point as it often takes place during episode 15–19 (in the first three seasons) or 7–8 (in the last seasons) or thereabout. Normally, contestants tend to keep their assigned living quarters, unless Chris chooses to reassign them. From this point forward, the game shifts from a team-effort competition into an individual game, although some challenges would still be team challenges. The final two or three would then face a final challenge or the jury on the last day of the competition until there is a winner revealed.

The initial merge contained 12 members, due to the amount of contestants in Total Drama Island; however, since Action up until Pahkitew Island, there has been a clear tendency to merge later in the game with at 6 to 8 contestants remaining.

•The earliest merge of the series happens in the second season of the reboot, in the sixth episode.

•This merge takes place both before the mathematical middle of the season and before half of the contestants had already been eliminated.

•The latest merge of the series happens in the third season, in the nineteenth episode.

•This merge takes place both after the mathematical middle of the season and after over half of the contestants had already been eliminated.

•Total Drama World Tour and Total Drama: Revenge of the Island are the only seasons where less than half of the cast made it to the merge.

•Total Drama: Pahkitew Island is the only season where exactly half of the cast made it to the merge.
